Dear Friends:
On 2012 there will be the Main Mission, as usual during the 2nd and third weeks of August, to be carried on the city of Huancavelica, working out of the local Hospital and may be a couple of periphery Health Posts. Please note this for your planning. Let me know who of all of you will be planning to return, and or bring also additional volunteers. Hospital has improved quite a bit and mostly the indifference and hostility is disappearing, being replaced by cooperation and camaraderie as I had not seen in previous years. Progress is evident. There will be another mini-mission, to a far away district from the main city. The place name is Huaytara, small town of some 4000 people and surrounding villages for a total population of some 10,000 at most. However it is closer to Lima, just six hour away on the southern tip of the State of Huancavelica, easy access by road. This mission will be coordinated with Dr Lucy Munoz, Gerontologist whose family originates there and still has a lot of relatives living there who will help us with the set-up. There is no Hospital there only a Health Center with similar capacities as the one in Lircay. No operating room. So we need to start there with a mini team of basically medical, pediatrics, gerontology, ob-gyn colleagues. I will go to assist in the organization. We need also the support of our nurses. Team cannot have more than 12 volunteers. There are no more rooms in the small local hotel. Next month we are sending a small container with donations to Huancavelica Hospital and I will go in person to start the 2012 coordination. Co Director for this mission will be Dr. Jorge Carreon M.D. who you will meet later. I wish you all a very Happy and Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2012, from the bottom of my heart, Dr. Ralph Kuon |
