This letter is from Dr. Luis Paredes, Plastic Surgeon from San Bartolome Hospital in Lima, a mother-child hospital. Luis started to work with PAMS one year ago and has already been in Huancavelica with us. He promotes as, other groups do, a comprehensive treatment for children with Hare lips and Palate fissures. Dr. Alberto Bardales from Univ Cayetano Heredia goes the same way. It means surgical, dental, language, psychological and rehabilitation. If you do not read Spanish, he reports there was a Multi Disciplinary world meeting on this topic and many Peruvian groups were present. Among themselves they agreed to create a Medical Association and also to request the government, that at birth, all these children be registered to have for the first time reliable statistics on this regard. You easily know what a big step forward this is. Dr. Ralph Kuon Stimados Amigos Miguel Martinez is a clinical therapist that specializes in the functioning of the mind, the influence of negative emotions that cause bodily ailments and behavior problems. "Kristina Goff and Meghan Michael gave an excellent presentation at Anesthesia Grand Rounds last night about their experience from a resident perspective in Ayacucho, Perú earlier this year. They presented data recommending this type of activity to their fellow residents and concluding that it was a valuable learning experience for them. It was rewarding to hear what they had to say about Perú and most importantly that they wanted to come back! They mentioned options for residents to do this type of work with a few international organizations websites and also with UTSWMC Faculty in Perú. They recommended the last option for their peers. I met with Faculty members and they are very supportive of this activity and I think we should encourage the possibility of establishing an international rotation in Huancavelica. The interest of Faculty members from an important institution such us UTSWMC is very important and will hopefully lead to a long relationship that will benefit both, the Univetsity of Texas SWMC and Huancavelica-Perú!"
