Dr. Ralph Kuon was born in Tacna, Peru, 1938. Graduated from San Fernando Medical School, Lima Peru. 16th place amongst 320 graduates. Finished Medical School in 1964, graduation in 1965. Thesis: Penetrating Thoracic Wounds.June 1964 until June 1967: General Surgery Residency, School for Graduates, San Marcos University at Hospital Obrero. Associated Professor of Surgery, University of Ica Medical School, from August 1967 until 1970. Staff Surgeon at Hospital Regional de Ica, same period.Staff Surgeon: for the Organ Transplantation Program of the Peruvian Navy, affiliated to the same program at University of Colorado, under the Chair of Thomas Starzl, M.D. 1970-1976. Second Specialty: through a Cardio-thoracic Surgical Fellowship, 2 years at USC in Los Angeles, and affiliated Saint Vincent’s Medical Center. Had a third year of training in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, as a Resident at Children’s Hospital in Boston, University of Harvard Graduate School for Medicine. ( 1977-78-79 ). Returned to Peru in charge of the Cardiac Surgery Program for the Peruvian Navy, and private practice at the Anglo-American Hospital. 1980 to mid 1982.

Dr. Mora is a native of Orange County. He graduated from Anaheim High School and then completed his pre-med studies from Cal State Fullerton University. He completed his medical school training at the University of California Irvine (UCI) where he finished in the top of his class with AOA Medical Society honors. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training at the University of Southern California (USC/LAC) Medical Center. The USC Orthopaedic surgery residency is internationally recognized for its excellence in the surgical training of complex fractures and high energy trauma. He has served as a USC volunteer clinical staff member. He rounded off his surgical training and refined his surgical skills with a Sports Medicine, Shoulder, Knee and Cartilage Resurfacing Fellowship at the Santa Monica Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Group with Bert Mandelbaum, MD and Thomas Knapp, MD. During his Fellowship he assisted in the Orthopaedic care of professional U.S. Soccer athletes, Pepperdine University athletes, and Santa Monica College student athletes. Dr. Mora is currently the team doctor for Foothill High School. (read more) Note: This is his second PAMS mission. |

Joan Weiss
Born in Philadelphia in 1954, Dr. Weiss has been practicing at APA since 1981. She attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, graduating in 1977. She completed her residency at New England Medical Center-Boston Floating Hospital for Infants and Children. Dr. Weiss's view is that her primary role is being a teacher, so that parents will feel more comfortable about when to worry and when not to worry, and will know when there are things they can do on their own. Having survived her two son's teenage years, she wants to communicate the excitement and pride of watching kids grow up and become independent. (read more)
