_Dear Friend and Supporter of the Peruvian American Medical Society,
As I look back on 2011, it was one filled with an outstanding Medical Missions performance, extraordinary support from people like you and an unforgettable Annual Gala Dinner event by the Southern California Chapter, event that made possible to provide the financial support to the Medical Missions that brought very much needed medical, dental and educational help to thousands of persons that otherwise would not have had the opportunity. From the very moment your generous support was received, our Missions leaders and sister organizations such as Lending Hope Foundation and Hearts with Hope set immediately to reach their goals and the Chapter proudly takes this opportunity to inform you on the performance of the Medical Missions. Please, allow me to present you with a summary of the services provided to the underprivileged in Peru, Mexico and USA. The Ayacucho Mission provided care to 3,400 patients and performed 180 surgeries. The surgeries transformed the lives of 43 children born with malformations. Hearts with Hope provided care to hundreds of children in Lima and Arequipa, performed 33 open heart surgeries and tens of cardiac catheterizations. The Huancavelica Mission provided care to 2,700 patients and performed 92 surgeries. Selva in Action brought medical assistance and education to hundreds in the Rio Momon area of the Peruvian Amazon. Also more than 8,000 patients received dental care. All these services were made possible by the great altruism of the Missions’ volunteers in addition to your generous support. One of the highlights of the 2011 year was gathering hundreds of PAMS supporters with the Medical Missions leaders at the Annual Gala Dinner. Those of you who joined us for the biggest fundraiser event of the year can attest that there was no better place to enjoy a wonderful night of great dinning, spectacular artistic show by Danzas del Peru and terrific dancing animated by Gino Gamboa’s orchestra. You could feel the altruistic spirit of all attendees at its very best in a wonderful environment. It was a night that without a doubt will remain in our memories for many years to come. I’d also like to take this opportunity to mention additional activities by PAMS volunteers who worked shoulder to shoulder with CareNowUSA organization to provide medical care to the homeless and uninsured of our beloved City of Los Angeles. Yes! in our own backyard. The Missions in addition have provided support to orphanages and institutions alike in Peru and Mexico. Allow me to tell you that this year the So. Ca. Chapter proudly announces not only the continuity but the expansion of the Medical Missions services bringing Telemedicine to the Andes of Peru. This technology will make possible that remote areas receive access to specialty care. Also Ayacucho Mission volunteers are joining Shine Humanity returning to Haiti to continue assisting in the relief and reconstruction efforts. These are just examples of the outstanding dedication and hard work of all volunteers who know no fear to lack of comfort and conveniences and do an extraordinary work in unison with your generous support. Please, save the date! Mark your calendars and get ready for the greatest 2012 PAMS So. Ca. Gala Dinner Event. May 18th is the night where the magic of giving and philanthropy returns; bringing again a world class artistic show, wonderful music and a great dinner. Tickets are $80.00 per person. We will publish a full color Memorabilia book for the event. Please take a minute to complete the enclosed Sponsorship Form and let thousands know about your business and your noble support of PAMS. Remember that PAMS is an organization recognized by the IRS as recipient of tax deductible donations. The opportunity to participate in such wonderful endeavor is here for you. All you have to do is to choose your level of support. There is no such thing as too small or too big,….. all support is welcome and remember…………., YES! You can make a difference in a person’s life. On behalf of the Southern California Chapter I thank you before hand for joining us to a fantastic night that I guarantee will be in our memories long after the event. Warmest wishes, Cesar Aranguri, MD Peruvian American Medical Society President, Southern California Chapter Chair, Medical Missions Committee Director, Ayacucho Mission Applications are due for medical students and general volunteers on February 21, 2011 for Huancavelica 2012 Mission. Dear Friends and Volunteers,
Dr. Lucy Munoz is starting this year a short medical mission in HUAYTARA, a small village in the southwestern region of Huancavelica, closer to the ocean than Huancavelica city. This is a first trial there. We are now consolidating a team and donations. The team will be a small team with no surgical services since there is not a surgical room available. The local Health Unit is a small sets of outpatient offices and small wing for admissions ( 16 beds ) which are not yet functioning, they are new and do not even have mattresses. The small, picturesque and beautiful village h as a small hotel, check it out here:www.hotelhuaytaraplazapi.com The volunteers must fill the sign-in forms ( attached ) as soon as possible since we have to submit the "services folder" to local authorities to star the process of Mission approval by Minister of Health ( MINSA) www.minsa.gob.pe. In that page you may find statistical data for the area.If you wish to contribute with some money, please send it to PAMSEF, c/o Ana May Salgado, 6488 Tamerlane, West Bloomfield MI 48322 USA.This mission will work five days in mid June. Contact Dr Munoz for more details. The second mission of the year is the classical Huancavelica Mission: before the end of the month we are sending with Direct Relief our first container of donations. We wish to have a medical team of some 24 doctors for the 2 weeks. Thanks goodness we have now already two specialties we always missed in the past: one cardiologist and one dermatologists. Hope our pediatric psychologists who were so useful at the orphanage may come back this year as well. Today I am meeting for second time with the Peruvian team of nurses, well known to all of you since it is their sixth consecutive year they are helping us. It is our second meeting so far: we have all the surgical nurses we need, we would like to have more in other areas. As usual all students, medical or otherwise MUST commit to the 2 weeks of services. Blessings and best wishes for this year to all of you. May your generosity and love for humanity grow and may the fruits of your work be many. Dr. Ralph Kuon Director Huancavelica Medical Mission Dear members and friends of Dr. Kuon and PAMS Huancavelica Mission: I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Season and are ready to tackle an interesting New Year that promises to bring better days to our battered hopes of 2011. The day has been set for the exciting Fundraising dinner event for PAMS and I promise you it will be much better than last year and we are looking to fill the place with 550 guests which is the maximum capacity for the Hilton San Gabriel Hotel. This year, there will be 5 Medical Missions benefiting from this Fundraising event: Ayacucho Mission, Huancavelica, Hearts for Hope, Trujillo and Selva en Accion.I have joined Dr. Kuon this year to become the Event Committee member representing the HUANCAVELICA MISSION. I have set an ambitious goal for the Huancavelica Mission, but one that is very achievable with the help of all of you taking personal responsibility to insure we reach this goal. We have four and a half months to accomplish our goal, which is the following: 1. Sell 200 tickets for the dinner at $80 per person. Huancavelica probably has 50 doctors and volunteers that joins Dr. Kuon in the annual Missions. If each of you just sell 4 tickets we already reached the 200 tickets. 2. We need to sell 3000 Raffle tickets at $5 ea. The booklets are 20 tickets each which would bring $100 per booklet. If each members takes on the task of selling 3 booklets each of you, we already reached the 3000 tickets sold. 3. We need to gather at least 100 items for our Silent Auction for the evening. We need things to fill up baskets, or artwork, memorabilia, any items that are auction-able, tickets to the Dodger's Game, tickets to Disneyland, Universal Studios, any ball game, a painting, a collectible item, a ceramic piece for decoration, etc. 4. We need you to find Sponsors or become a Sponsor for the event by buying a Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond or Platinum Table. Do it in the name of your company, of your organization.Attached is the flyer of the event and the Sponsorship form. These flyers along with tickets for the Event, along with the Raffle tickets are ready next week. Call me and I will deliver them to you. United we will reach our Goals. Do it first for the underprivileged people of our beloved Peru, second, do it for PAMS, third, do it for Dr. Kuon who has dedicated his entire life to bring hope for the poor and gave a voice to those who could not speak for themselves and four, do it for yourself, so you can brag you were part of the winning team that obtained the highest amount of donations for the Huancavelica Mission. Think about it and call me to let me know how many tickets you are committing to selling, how many items you intend to donate for the auction, how many raffle booklets you need me to drop off, how much is your own sponsorship to our cause. Hoping to hear from you very soon! America Tang - Secretary PAMS - So. Ca. Chapter
