I am a student at the University of California Irvine. I am working toward my degree in Sociology and Public Health. I am currently employed at the UCI office of Equal Opportunity and Development, through this I was given the incredible chance to participate in the 2010 PAMS Medical Mission.
I am very excited about being given the opportunity to travel to Peru. There is so much of this world that I want to see. Life gives us opportunities that enrich us, you just have to take the chance and take the leap. People tell me how proud they are that I am going to help others, I don’t know if they realize how much I am getting out of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Peru is a beautiful country with and amazing culture and I feel so lucky to be able to experience it with people I know will truly appreciate that there is no where else in the world like Peru.

I earned my bachelor's degree in Public Health Sciences at UC Irvine and I intend to purse my Master's in Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology and biostatistics before I continue on to medical school. My goal is to improve the quality of life, especially for those living in underserved communities around the world. For fun, I like to work on my photography skills, cook and bake, engage in outdoor sporting activities, relax at the beach, hang out with friends, and travel to experience and learn about different cultures. Thus far, I have traveled to Europe and Honduras in Central America, where I participated in a public health brigade with a club that I co-founded on the UCI campus. I am very much looking forward to the upcoming Peru medical mission trip so that I can offer my help and have the opportunity to learn from the people there in order to grow as a pre-medical student, a future physician, and most importantly, as an individual.

I was born and raised in Southern California. I have just completed my third year at the University of California Irvine. I am working toward my first undergraduate degrees in political science, sociology and classical civilizations. Currently I am employed with Destination Sitters and I have a great deal of experience with children from 3 months to 5 years. I am a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a community service fraternity that works to help members of their own community and the nation.
Being able to see the world and travel to places I have only seen on a map, a national geographic or even a history channel special is mind blowing. There are things that you can’t learn from a textbook in a classroom, and that’s life. Everybody has resources, time and knowledge and you should give of what you can. We all have something to give. What an amazing gift, and then to make it even better I get to help people. I have always believed that doing what you can for others is a duty that all mankind shares. It is a gift to be able to help people, and it is a gift to be able to do it in one of the most beautiful places in the world, rich in culture and life.

I am about to start my third year at California State University at Fullerton. I am working toward my degree in biological sciences and working toward a career in medicine. Through volunteering at UCI medical center, I heard about this opportunity through an internship at the University of California in Irvine called Diversity in Medicine (DIM). Becoming a doctor is a dream that I am working hard to accomplish, but I do have another passion. That passion is photography. Being able to capture the beauty that I see in the world is amazing to me.
Being able to travel to Peru and see first hand how what I have been learning in class and see in the medical center is enacted in a place people can only imagine; to see the difference of how illness is approached will help me to become a better doctor in the future. I want to try and capture the rich culture that is unique to Peru. I know that what I will learn and see will be life changing.

I was born and raised in Northern California. I have just completed my third year at the University of California Irvine. I am working toward a degree in Public Health and Social Sciences. I am currently working at the UCI office of Equal Opportunity and Development. Through this position so many doors have been opened to me. I got an internship called Diversity in Medicine, which gave me insight into just how important medicine is to the community.
I have been involved in my community for as long as I can remember. When this prospect became available I knew that this was something that I had to be apart of. There are things that you can’t learn from a textbook in a classroom, and that’s life. Everybody has resources, time and knowledge and you should give of what you can. We all have something to give. This opportunity to give back is as important for me as what I am about to gain. I am being offered the chance to experience life, life with all its uncertainties, hardships and its unimaginable beauty.
